Hello, my name is David Cloutier, and I am a Masters-Level Intern from Bowie State University where I study Counseling Psychology. I offer individual therapy to adults 18 and over who are experiencing anxiety, stress, depression, struggles with relationships, unresolved histories, and difficult life changes.

It can be challenging or overwhelming to revisit personal histories while sustaining a present and imagining a future. Sometimes you may be down or anxious, maybe you are facing a grief that seems too big to confront, your worries and fears might seem like they are taking over, or a life transition is adding complexity to your world that just seems like too much. This suffering might be the result of a loss – a relationship, a passing, a beloved pet, a job, relocation, or the struggle to build a new life. I hear you. Drawing from therapeutic research, evidence-based methods, and motivational interviewing techniques, I’ll support your sense of peace, direction forward, and renewed self-reliance.

My approach focuses on establishing a safe and encouraging place for sharing your unique story - how it may be unfolding now or how it has been in your past.

With a lifetime of practice as an artist and former full-time professor of art, I bring decades of teaching, learning, and creative experience to our supportive space. I offer patience, sensitivity, openness, and care for your story, emotions, and life journey. If you are an artist or creative, I’m excited to offer my singular expertise to support you in your specialized challenges.

From establishing a vision to confronting unresolved trauma to making peace with a tumultuous inner narrative, I’m sincerely looking forward to working with you on revealing, creating, and manifesting your unique purpose and story.  Please find me in person at our Baltimore City office to embark on our journey together.

“There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.”

Outside of the office…

At present, I own and lead an atelier for late and second career artists dedicated to experimentation in service of professional and aesthetic growth. In my own studio work, I explore themes of grief and healing via painting, printmaking, and drawing. I love nature, Baltimore parks, and enjoy running with my dog in the woods.

Educational Background

I am currently pursuing my Masters of Counseling Psychology and Certificate in Addictions Counseling at Bowie State University having taught art at the undergraduate and graduate levels for the last two decades. I hold a Master of Fine Art from the Maryland Institute College of Art (2005) and a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Painting with a Certificate in Art Therapy from University of the Arts (1991). In pursuing my Art Therapy career, I focused my practicum work at Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia in Adult Mood Disorders. I went on to practice with adolescents in psychiatric settings as an Activities Therapist after my college graduation. I later worked with adults with Alzheimer’s and dementia both in acute hospital settings and nursing homes. After receiving my Masters of Fine Art, I began my career as a full-time professor teaching painting, drawing, printmaking, and visual art foundations at the Maryland Institute College of Art.

  • Some of my recent training includes crisis intervention, suicide prevention, drug and alcohol treatment, and experience managing complex mood disorders, including borderline personality disorder.
