Hello! My name is Chelsea Cowden (she/her/hers), I am a Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor (LGPC) in the state of Maryland. I provide individual counseling for young adults and adults who are struggling with worry, sadness, or the lasting impact of traumatic experiences. I also specialize in working with neurodivergent individuals, including those with ADHD, OCD, and autism spectrum disorders.

My approach blends evidence-based practice with a warm, down-to-earth style that prioritizes clarity, connection, and sustainable growth.I believe that every person’s story is unique, and I work to create a safe, nurturing space where you can explore your thoughts, emotions, and experiences without judgment. Together, we’ll work to face what feels hard, build on the strengths you already have, and find practical tools that help you move through life with more understanding and self-compassion.

In our work together, I use integrative techniques that I tailor to your specific needs. I am trained in Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), a highly effective treatment for OCD. My focus is always on helping you feel empowered, supported, and equipped with skills that truly make a difference in your daily life.

With a heart for helping others, I bring a warm and empathetic approach to therapy. I value honest, open communication and bring that into both my clinical work and everyday interactions. I believe humor, personal reflection, and emotional nuance all have a place in the healing process. Sometimes laughter can lighten the weight of difficult emotions, while personal reflection helps us process and gain insight into our experiences. By embracing the full range of human emotion (both the light and the heavy) we can create a therapeutic space that feels authentic, encouraging and meaningful.

Whether you're navigating a difficult life transition or struggling with overwhelming emotions, I will strive to meet you where you are and walk alongside you in your journey towards growth!

Outside of the office…

In my free time you can usually find me with a book/kindle in hand or jamming out to music in my car. Spending quality time cuddling with my cat and watching Netflix. I love to get out into nature and practice yoga. On the weekends, I like going to farmers markets, thrifting, and trying out new restaurants with my partner.

Educational Background

I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from West Chester University in Pennsylvania. Following that, I pursued my passion for understanding trauma by completing my Master of Science degree at Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia, where I specialized in Psychology with a focus on trauma.

During my graduate studies, I had the opportunity to intern at a Crime Victim Center, where I worked closely with individuals facing various challenges. However, a significant portion of my clients sought support for trauma stemming from experiences of sexual and physical abuse. This experience deepened my understanding of the complexities of trauma and solidified my commitment to helping individuals navigate their healing journeys.
