Hello! My name is Chelsea Cowden (she/her/hers), I am a Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor (LGPC) in the state of Maryland. I offer individual counseling to teens, young adults and adults who are feeling overwhelmed by worry, sadness, or the lingering effects of a traumatic experience.

If that’s you, it’s possible that you’ve been struggling with constant feelings of anxiousness, finding it difficult to quiet your mind or enjoy life's simple pleasures. Or perhaps you're experiencing the weight of depression, feeling stuck in a cycle of sadness and hopelessness, unsure of how to break free. Alternatively, you may be grappling with the aftermath of a traumatic event, haunted by intrusive memories or struggling to trust in yourself and others.

Whatever you're going through, I'm here to offer you a supportive space to explore your thoughts, emotions, and experiences without judgment. Together, we'll work collaboratively to uncover the underlying factors contributing to your distress and develop personalized strategies to help you cope and thrive.

With a heart for helping others, I bring a warm and empathetic approach to therapy. I believe that every individual has the capacity for healing and transformation, and I'm here to walk alongside you on your journey. I tailor my technique to the individual and I commit to creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for my clients.

Outside of my practice, I am deeply committed to mental health advocacy and community engagement. I believe in the power of destigmatizing mental illness and making quality mental health care accessible to all.

Whether you're navigating a difficult life transition, struggling with overwhelming emotions, or simply seeking personal growth and self-discovery, I am here to offer support, guidance, and hope. Together, we can embark on a journey of healing and empowerment.

Outside of the office…

In my free time you can usually find me with a book/kindle in hand or jamming out to music in my car. Spending quality time cuddling with my cat and watching Netflix. I love to get out into nature and practice yoga. On the weekends, I like going to farmers markets, thrifting, and trying out new restaurants with my partner.

Educational Background

I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from West Chester University in Pennsylvania. Following that, I pursued my passion for understanding trauma by completing my Master of Science degree at Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia, where I specialized in Psychology with a focus on trauma.

During my graduate studies, I had the opportunity to intern at a Crime Victim Center, where I worked closely with individuals facing various challenges. However, a significant portion of my clients sought support for trauma stemming from experiences of sexual and physical abuse. This experience deepened my understanding of the complexities of trauma and solidified my commitment to helping individuals navigate their healing journeys.
