Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) in Baltimore, MD
Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy Now Available at LifeSpring Counseling Services
Are you struggling with symptoms of depression, anxiety, trauma, or chronic stress and finding that talk therapy alone isn’t providing the breakthrough you need? At LifeSpring Counseling Services in Baltimore, we offer Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) to help individuals move through stuck points, uncover insights, and experience meaningful emotional relief.
We’ve partnered with an outside prescriber with a specialized medical team, to bring this transformative and evidence-based treatment to our clients in a safe and supported way.
What Is Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy?
Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) is an innovative mental health treatment that pairs oral ketamine with intentional psychotherapy sessions. The goal? To help you explore your mind more freely, reconnect with inner strengths, and promote deep healing.
The therapeutic work we do together with the ketamine sessions allows us to integrate these insights into lasting emotional growth by leveraging Ketamine's unique ability to shift brain chemistry and increase neuroplasticity.

How Does Ketamine Work?
Ketamine is a legal, fast-acting medication that has been shown to help alleviate symptoms of:
Chronic stress and burnout
Unlike traditional antidepressants, ketamine’s effects can begin within 1–2 hours and often last up to two weeks. It works by stimulating neural pathways in the brain that regulate mood, stress response, and cognitive flexibility, making it a powerful tool for breaking through emotional numbness, hopelessness, or racing thoughts.
At LifeSpring, our clients receive ketamine in sublingual lozenge form (dissolved under the tongue) under the medical guidance of an outside prescriber.
What to Expect From Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy at LifeSpring
-
1. Intake Appointment with your KAP Therapist
Your KAP journey begins with an intake appointment with your therapist. During this visit, they’ll gather more information about your history, your goals for pursuing Ketamine and Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy, and they’ll provide you with education about the medication and what you can expect.
-
2. Initial Medical Evaluation
After the intake appointment with your KAP therapist, you’ll need to schedule a virtual consultation with the Ketamine prescriber we work with. They’ll review your physical and mental health history to determine if ketamine is a safe and appropriate option for you. If approved, your prescription will be mailed directly to your home for use in your upcoming sessions.
-
3. Preparation Session
Before your first dosing experience, you and your therapist will meet to clarify your treatment goals, set intentions, and walk through the process together so you feel prepared and supported. We have an educational handout that we can share with you to answer all of your frequently asked questions.
-
4. Ketamine Dosing Session (2-3 Hours)
During the session, you’ll self-administer the lozenge in our office. You’ll be in a calm, private space, reclined, wearing an eye mask, and listening to soothing music. Most people describe the experience as peaceful, introspective, and expansive. We remain present the entire time to hold space and provide emotional support as needed.
-
5. Integration Therapy
Following your ketamine experience, we’ll schedule integration sessions to process insights and translate your experience into meaningful personal growth. This part of the journey is essential and allows the shifts in your brain to take root in your everyday life.
-
6. Ongoing Support
Your therapist and the medical team continue to support your care by monitoring progress, adjusting your treatment plan, and prescribing additional doses as needed.
How Many Sessions Are Needed For KAP?
After the medical intake you will be prescribed ketamine for 2 sessions, and can have ketamine for the remaining 4-6 sessions prescribed after a follow-up medical appointment. It is possible to go beyond the 6-8 dosing sessions, in which case additional follow-up appointments would be necessary.
The recommended course of treatment is 6-8 dosing sessions. Including preparation and integration sessions, this would look like 14-19 sessions overall. You will work closely with your therapist and prescriber to monitor your progress and determine how many sessions are needed for your specific needs.
