Session Structure

Week 2: 45-minute individual sessions for each partner
Week 3: Completion of the Gottman Relationship Checkup (online assessment; separate fee charged by the Gottman Institute)
Week 4: 90-minute session to review assessment results, explore patterns, and identify relationship goals

Frequently Asked Questions
Can we use insurance to pay for relationship therapy?
No. The focus of relationship therapy services at LifeSpring Counseling Services is to work on the relationship, and is not intended to focus on or treat any particular mental health diagnosis. As such, these services are not covered by insurance.
What is the Gottman Relationship Checkup, and how much does it cost?
The Gottman Relationship Checkup is a comprehensive online assessment designed to evaluate relationship strengths and challenges. It is completed individually by each partner and provides detailed feedback for your therapist to use in your treatment planning. There is a separate fee (charged by the Gottman Institute) for this assessment, typically around $39 per couple.
What if my partner is hesitant about therapy?
It’s common for one partner to be more open to therapy than the other. We recommend scheduling a consult call with both partners present to address any questions and explore how the process works. Often, understanding the structure and purpose of therapy helps ease initial hesitations.
How long does couples therapy typically last?
The duration of relationship therapy depends on your goals, level of commitment, and how often you're able to meet. Some couples benefit from short-term, focused work (6–12 sessions), while others engage in longer-term therapy to build deeper emotional connection and lasting change.
Do we have to be in crisis to benefit from couples therapy?
Not at all. Many couples attend therapy to proactively strengthen their relationship, improve communication, or prepare for future transitions. You don’t have to wait for a crisis to invest in your partnership. Proactive couples understand that relationship therapy is a tool that can help them strengthen and grow their relationship.
We’re engaged. Is relationship therapy right for us?
Firstly, congratulations! Yes, engaged couples can definitely benefit from investing in their relationship. At LifeSpring Counseling Services, we offer pre-marital couples counseling services specifically for engaged couples. We encourage you to check out those services as they are designed with the needs of engaged couples in mind.
