Growing up as a child of immigrant parents means unknowingly carrying your own and your parents’ dreams. It may also mean spending energy trying to fit in, yet never feeling like you’re enough. Where can you put this mask down? The unspoken grief that emerges from this nuanced experience is an ache that deserves to be explored, understood, and most of all, felt. We can even joke about it too, but if you do that to mostly avoid feeling an emotion, I’ll gently call you out on it!

My name is Rhea Santos (she/hers), and I offer therapy for individuals who are seeking someone who truly wants to understand them for who they are. I also offer group counseling for individuals who want to explore their identity through songwriting. As a creative and LGBTQIA+ person, along with being a child of Filipinx immigrants, my own lived experiences allow me to explore your life with genuine curiosity and acceptance.

This is the space for people who want to better understand themselves by exploring what makes you who you are. This can be done through parts-work, value clarification, or creative self-expression. I often incorporate Internal Family Systems (IFS), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Trauma-Informed Expressive Arts Therapy. Most importantly, I want you to FULLY nerd out. Bring who YOU are to the table, as we can tie in your interests and passions to make this space fully feel like yours. At the end of the day, you are the master of your own experience, and I am here to walk alongside you.

“My family is not running a marathon. We're running a relay. My parents have gotten me this far. Everything I do is to get us further. I carry their hopes along with my own.”

Rhea’s Work

Outside of the office…

When I am not in session, you can find me spending time with my loved ones, attending local open mics, biking, going on an impromptu food tour, or crabbing. My rest days consist of morning yoga, songwriting, painting, baking, and playing video games on my PS4 or Wii. If I’m not staying occupied, you’ll also catch me taking a nice nap.

Educational Background

I graduated Summa Cum Laude and received my B.S. in Psychology from Towson University and then received my M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Johns Hopkins University. During my last semester of undergrad, I was a research assistant and gathered information regarding topics related to social psychology. My clinical experience at an outpatient mental health center involved working with children, adolescents, couples, and adults. Primary issues involved mood disorders, anxiety, trauma, and substance abuse. Currently, I am taking online courses to receive a Level 1 Certification for Trauma-Informed Expressive Arts Therapy.
