Hello! My name is Harry Calvert (he/him/his) and I am a Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor in the state of Maryland. I offer individual counseling to children, teens, young adults, and adults, ages 5 and up, who are dealing with stress, anxiety, depression, struggles with their self-image/self-esteem, and all other ways people can feel stuck. I strive to be a culturally-competent counselor and enjoy working with people from all walks of life.
I take pride in helping others and I hope that comes through during our time together. I look to create a safe, judgment-free place where you feel heard and understood and use a strengths-based approach to highlight your uniqueness. I value transparency, collaboration, as well as evidence-based practice to create a space where you understand the process of achieving your goals in this therapeutic space.
I use a holistic approach, and strive to meet you where you are with your goals for therapy while taking into consideration your own unique style and personality. I utilize a Person-Centered approach as a springboard to create that warm and trusting atmosphere to best support you and help facilitate your goals.
Something that is also important to me is the emotional expressiveness of children and teens of all genders, especially young males. Despite emotions and feelings being such a major part of life, children are oftentimes not taught what their emotions are and what their bodies are telling them. I look to educate them on their very human emotions and help find ways to cope in a positive way.
I can’t wait to be a part of your journey.

— Carl Rogers

Outside of the office…
When I am not in the office you can usually find me outside. I love just about all things outdoors including hiking, camping, running and playing sports with friends and family. I also enjoy reading (bonus points if it is by a body of water) and cooking. Last but absolutely not least, I am obsessed with chocolate chip cookies and am on a mission to find the best chocolate chip cookie in Maryland!

Understanding the Fire Service for Mental Health Clinicians
Educational Background
I received my B.S. in Psychology from the University of Maryland, College Park and received my M.S. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Baltimore. During my undergraduate studies, I participated in two research labs, one in neuroscience and the other in social psychology, looking at implicit bias. Clinically, I have experience working with children, adolescents, and young adults as well as families to help with communication in family systems. More recently, my clinical work has focused on working with adults in a community mental health clinic to provide mental health services in the surrounding community while advocating for my clients’ needs by engaging with agencies across Maryland to provide adequate resources and programs for them.
