What I Love About Being a Therapist at LifeSpring Counseling Services

Over the years, many of my clients have commented that they have no idea how I do what I do as a therapist, and I’m eager to let them know that I have an incredibly cool job!  At LifeSpring, we love the work that we do!  The trust placed in us is a privilege and an honor that we do not take lightly.

If you’ve ever wondered how therapists do what they do all day, let us be the first to tell you!   We asked our therapists what they love about being a therapist, so we could share it with you!

“What I love most about being a therapist is the honest, open, and collaborative relationships I form with my clients. These therapeutic relationships are so often healing in and of themselves; I find it beautiful that something seemingly so simple can go such a long way. It’s also a career that not only allows me to facilitate growth in others, but it also fosters my own personal and professional development, making it all the more fulfilling.”

~ Jordan Bramhall, LGPC

“I feel so much gratitude for the job I have, and while there are so many aspects of being a therapist I find rewarding, one of the biggest things that sticks with me is the importance and sanctity of the position I get to be in - to be a witness to some of the most vulnerable parts of others that have often gone unspoken or unsupported. I get to build supportive relationships with folks, hold space for their growth to take place, to see how growth can look so different from person to person, and to celebrate that with them.”

~ Mickayla Waldhauser, LGPC

“I love getting to watch the clients I work with meet their goals. This work allows you to meet so many incredible people, and I am constantly learning things from my clients, and it is so special to see that they are also taking things away from our sessions together and finding ways to recover and heal.”

~ Jerrica Robertson, Intern

“I love working with client’s and watching a change that supports their mental health and well being.  I also love that I learn something from each of my clients that greatly and positively impact the work I do.  They encourage me to learn and grow in this profession much to the benefit of other clients.”

~Irene Burks, LGPC

“It fills me with gratitude to sit across from someone who starts as a relative stranger and build enough trust for them to express some of their deepest, most personal truths that they may have never told anyone before. In day-to-day life, moments of honest connection can be few and far between, so it’s such a privilege to meaningfully connect with people every single day at work!”

~ Cam Davis, LGPC

“I love getting to be real with people. We can and will talk about the things you can’t talk with anyone else about, there is no such thing as TMI and we will go there. Surprisingly, humor is such a big part of this; somehow lightness always seems to show-up, even in the midst of the hard stuff. Getting to experience the breadth and depth of human experiences and emotions, while holding space for it all is pretty incredible. I love encouraging people to be a little kinder to themselves through all of the things that make them human, and, as so many things in therapy are, it’s a parallel process that lets me be a little more compassionate with myself at the same time.”

~ Liza Krohn, LCSW-C

“Being a therapist combines my extroversion with my desire to serve and help others. I also love that my job allows me to witness so much growth and healing. To loosely paraphase Freud (read the rest of this sentence first before you judge!), it’s all about helping people work and love better.

~ Sara Secada-Lovio, LCPC

“Quality time is my love language, so spending time with people while having meaningful conversations is right up my alley! As a therapist I learn something new every single day, and I learn a lot about life and what it means to be human from my clients!  While I’m here to support, listen to, and empower my clients, most of them likely have no idea just how much I’ve learned from them!  As a therapist, we meet so many amazing people, although most of the people we meet have no idea how wonderful they really are.”

~ Melissa Wesner, LCPC

So, if you’ve ever wondered how therapists do what they do all day, these are your answers!  This role might not be for everyone, but for many of us, it’s an incredibly honoring and rewarding position to be in. If you’ve ever worked with a therapist before, I hope you’ve been able to experience the very special relationship that exists between a therapist and their client.
