Frequently Asked Questions About Brainspotting Intensives

What is a Brainspotting Intensive?

In the therapy world, there are Intensives for EMDR, couples work, and other counseling modalities. Intensives involve completing hours of therapy in just a few days. At LifeSpring Counseling Services, we offer Brainspotting Intensives online or in-person at our Maryland office. Our Intensives can be 1-3 days long.

What are the reasons that someone might consider doing a Brainspotting Intensive?

Intensives are great for people who are not interested in (or able to) participate in weekly therapy.  In these cases, people are looking to do extensive amounts of work in a short period of time.  Other people seek Intensives in response to a recent life event that they want to work through as quickly as possible. For example, if you complete a 7 hour Intensive, it’s like completing 7 weeks of therapy in just one day.

Can I use my insurance to pay for my Brainspotting Intensive?

No, unfortunately not. Insurance companies do not pay for this particular service. Payments can be made with a Health Savings Account (HSA) if you have one. We can also provide you with a SuperBill (a receipt for services) that you can submit to your HSA for reimbursement.

What can I expect to happen during a Brainspotting Intensive?

Prior to attending your appointment, you will complete intake paperwork online.  This paperwork will give us information about you and your background. When we meet, we will also go over this information together. You’ll also be asked about the primary issue(s) that you want to address during your Intensive. From there, we will use Brainspotting to help you process that specific issue.

I live out of state. Can I do a Brainspotting Intensive with you online?

Unless you live in the state of New Hampshire where Melissa Wesner, LCPC is also licensed, the answer is no. You can, however, come to Baltimore County, Maryland to complete an in-person Brainspotting Intensive with me.  If that is something of interest, just let me know!

Which option is most popular, in-person Brainspotting Intensives or online Intensives?

So far, everyone who has completed a Brainspotting Intensive at our office has decided to do it in-person.  However, if an online Brainspotting Intensive is more convenient for you, that’s totally fine!

Is there a difference between Brainspotting online or in-person? Is one option more effective than the other?

Brainspotting is amazing, whether you’re doing it online or in person. Online Brainspotting and in-person Brainspotting are both effective.  We recommend that you pick the option that works best for you.

How should I plan for my Brainspotting Intensive?

There are only 3 things that you need to do to prepare for a Brainspotting Intensive at our office. 1. Complete your intake paperwork online. 2. Come prepared to share about the primary issue(s) that you want to work on, and 3. Make sure that you have a clear calendar after your Intensive, so you can rest, relax, enjoy a good meal, and get a good night’s rest.

How can I find a therapist who offers Brainspotting Intensives?

It can be challenging to find Brainspotting Intensives as there aren’t very many therapists who offer them. They require the therapist to be sufficiently experienced and confident in their use of Brainspotting as Brainspotting Intensives involve Brainspotting for extended periods of time.

At LifeSpring Counseling Services, Melissa Wesner, LCPC is the therapist who provides this service. Melissa is the Founder of LifeSpring Counseling Services, and she is a Certified Brainspotter and Brainspotting Consultant. She has years of experience doing Brainspotting and feels very comfortable facilitating Intensives.
