As therapists, we regularly hear clients (and friends) talk about how difficult it is to make friends as an adult. Not only that, but many of our clients tell us just how hard it is to make friends while engaging in activities that are healthy.  If you live in Baltimore County, and you’re tired of the bar scene, know that there are plenty of options out there. We asked some of our therapists to share some of their favorite Baltimore County resources where you can meet new people, and this is their list.

Melissa Wesner, LCPC suggests:

MeetUp.com is a great website where you can search for activities of interest in your area. Interested in meeting other vegetarians, or going for walks with other dog owners? You can find all of those things on meetup.com.  Whether you’re new to the area, looking to make new friends, or ready to explore new hobbies, you’ll be sure to find something for you on this website.

Manor Mill in Monkton, MD is a really cool spot where you can listen to live music, shop at the local gift shop, or participate in really cool classes and workshops. You’ll find things like yoga, arts and crafts, and even retreats.

Sophie Koch, LGPC suggests:

Movement Climbing Gym is a great gym in Timonium, MD that offers rock climbing, yoga, and fitness classes. Rock climbing is a very social sport that has a tight knit community built on trust and communication.

Charm City Social Club is a social group in the Baltimore area that meets in various locations for a variety of activities, such as hikes, dinners, karaoke, and more. Their mission is to help people connect and create meaningful relationships while being active in their community.

Michaela Langley, LGPC suggests:

The Baltimore County Volunteer Center is an online volunteer center that connects people with local nonprofits and public agencies to engage them in meaningful activity and help the surrounding community. The website connects users with opportunities in various departments including aging, animal services, emergency management, environmental services, and recreation and parks. This is also a great opportunity to meet new people who also have an interest in serving others and being active in their community.

Sabah Khalid, LGPC suggests:

Baltimore Hot Yoga & Wellness is a great yoga spot where you can do hot yoga and meet new friends. Whether it is hot or cool yoga there are different types of yoga classes offered at this organization. Great way to make new friends and build community.

Chelsea Cowden, LGPC suggests:

The Baltimore Farmers Market is a place where people can eat, shop, and connect with local businesses, organizations, and performers. Managed by the Baltimore Office of Promotion & the Arts (BOPA), a non-profit organization dedicated to nurturing arts and culture in the city.  Runs from April 7th-December 22nd every Sunday from 7am-12pm.

As you can tell, this isn’t a complete list of local resources. There are so many great ways to meet new people in Baltimore County. Sometimes you just have to get creative and do some searching.  If you’re the person who has been wanting to make new friends without hanging out at the bar, we hope these ideas will serve as a starting point.
