At LifeSpring, we often hear our clients talk about how lonely they feel and about how difficult it is to make friends as an adult. Many young adults fall into the trap of hanging out at the bars with their friends when they’d actually really like to be engaging in healthy activities like yoga, hiking, kayaking, and book clubs. Other adults tell us that their children are too busy for them or that they’re struggle to rediscover who they are now that their children are out of the home.  If you’re in Baltimore City, know that we’ve created a small list of activities and organizations we love where you can engage in healthy activities and build a group of new friends too!

List of Places in Baltimore City, MD Where You Can Make New & Healthy Friendships:

  1. November Project. This group meets twice a week to engage in free workout routines and community involvement at whatever fitness skill level you are looking for. No signup or payment is required to join.

  2. Baltimore Road Runners Club. A running club for all ages and running levels through which you have access to social events, races, team runs, and volunteer opportunities.

  3. Volo. Provides adult (21+) sport leagues for players of all levels, all year long. Leagues include sports like basketball, soccer, volleyball, pickleball, field hockey, skeeball, flag football, and more. The organization also provides opportunities for social activities, fitness classes, tournaments, and volunteer opportunities. Adult membership in Volo also helps fund free, youth sports programs in the community as well.

  4. Mountain Club Of Maryland. This is a club that leads hikes and trails all over Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, & Delaware. Group of people come together and build a fun atmosphere and build new friendships. This is a great way to build a new friend circle if you want to be social. It’s a great way to work on communication skills and bonding with people.

  5. The Gloss Baltimore. This is a book club event that is in Baltimore County and surrounding counties. The Baltimore chapter meets in person over dinner & drinks at the Mt. Washington Tavern. They welcome newcomers, & there is no judgment if you don't finish the book. This is a great way to meet new people if you are a reader and love bonding over your favorite stories.

As you can see, this list is especially great if you’re someone who wants to be physically active. We view these activities as win-wins! You not only get to move your body, but you get to build relationships too!
