LifeSpring’s Approach to Working with Children and Teenagers
At LifeSpring, we know that children are not miniature adults, so we work to meet them where they are in a developmentally appropriate and engaging way. Relationships are at the core of the therapeutic process and are a priority in our work with children and adolescents. We strive to create a warm, accepting and empowering environment where your child feels like they have another trusted adult on their team. We work collaboratively with caregivers in addition to individual work with your child, and utilize this team to identify treatment goals.
We provide a confidential place for your child to explore, grow and heal with engaging caregivers in the treatment process. We incorporate creative interventions and tailor our services to each child’s needs, helping them find ways to express themselves, process life experiences, develop self-awareness and learn new skills.
What is Holding You Back from Starting Therapy for Your Child or Teen?
It can feel uncomfortable to invite someone new into your family system. When initiating services for their child, some caregivers might worry about the judgements a therapist might make about their parenting, or even what perception others might have of their child. When therapists are invited to work with a child and their family, they recognize this for the honor it is.
You are the expert on your child, and your child will be met with an open mind and open heart. Your therapist will look to build upon strengths and create a sense of empowerment within your family system. It is difficult, if not impossible, for a parent to meet every one of their children’s needs, and working with a therapist allows you to bring someone with knowledge, skills and insights on board to strengthen your team.
“When little people are overwhelmed by big emotions, it's our job to share our calm, not join their chaos”
— L.R. Knost
Is Therapy Right for Your Child or Teen?
LifeSpring Counseling may not be the right fit for therapy services for your child if you are looking for a professional to weigh in on a custody decision, looking for someone to speak on your behalf in divorce proceedings, or in any way become involved in legal/court processes. Using therapy as a tool to support and empower your child is our goal, and we believe that getting involved in legal matters can create a rift in the therapeutic relationship and inhibits our ability to be there for them.

“The more healthy relationships a child has, the more likely he will be to recover from trauma and thrive. Relationships are the agents of change and the most powerful therapy is human love.”
Bruce D. Perry, M.D., Ph.D.
