Hello! My name is Angela Amato (she/her/hers) and I am a Clinical Mental Health Counseling Intern from Marymount University. I specialize in helping adults struggling with aging, anxiety, depression, grief, life transitions, and social isolation. It is my top priority to help you be the best version of yourself in a safe and supportive environment.
In therapy, I use elements of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Humanistic Therapy in a person-centered approach. To me, this means understanding the way you experience the world and exploring the narratives you use to describe those experiences. Our work will help you create a deeper understanding of self and cultivate skills that build on your personal strengths. We will work together to create achievable goals so that you can build a life you love.
I have a lifetime of experience working with athletes, both as a competitor and as a coach. I offer a compassionate perspective, understanding the athlete experience even if you no longer feel like the athlete you once were.
As someone who has struggled with the highs and lows of competition, team dynamics, and personal performance, I help athletes navigate challenges that follow them off the field. Themes like identity, purpose, and acceptance are often part of our work. I do not define an athlete by age or ability, so I invite you to see yourself as the athlete you are and dive into your most authentic self.
Lastly, I bring over a decade of experience working with aging populations. Growing older can be a beautiful and empowering part of life, and not one that we must do by ourselves. Older adults experiencing social isolation or struggles with changes in identity or social role are enthusiastically welcomed to find joy and define new meaning in their lives.
Wherever you are on your journey with whatever burdens you’re facing, I invite you to come in. It is a privilege to help and to listen, and I look forward to our work together to help you live well.

Outside of the office…
You will find me actively involved in my fitness communities! I love coaching, specifically CrossFit and soccer, and spend much of my free time in those environments training, learning, and connecting with others. When I’m not at the gym or on the field, I am spending time with my family, traveling all over the east coast to see friends, and enjoying the great outdoors with my dog.
Educational Background
I hold a B.A. in Communications from Susquehanna University, with a concentration in Spanish and Public Relations. My professional background is in marketing and I hold over seven years of experience managing accounts and supporting clients in agency settings. Helping others is my passion, and I am grateful to be able to follow my calling and continue my education in counseling and coaching. Currently, I am pursuing my Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Marymount University, where I am also the Graduate Assistant Women’s Soccer Coach.
