Peer Consultation Groups for Licensed Mental Health Providers in Maryland

You don't have to practice alone just because you're fully licensed.

You don't have to practice alone just because you're fully licensed.

You've worked hard to become a licensed mental health professional. You know how to do the work.

But that doesn't mean you should have to figure everything out by yourself.

Maybe you've finished supervision and suddenly realized that you miss having a consistent place to talk through challenging cases.

Maybe you're in private practice and don't have a colleague down the hall to say, “Can I run something by you?”

Maybe you've had a session that left you thinking about your client long after the hour ended.

Or you're working with a complex clinical presentation and would simply feel better having another experienced clinician's perspective.

That's where peer consultation comes in.

LifeSpring Counseling Services offers peer consultation groups for licensed mental health providers who want meaningful clinical connection, thoughtful case consultation, professional growth, and a community of colleagues who understand the work.

Because being an independent clinician doesn't have to mean being an isolated clinician.

You Can Be Confident in Your Clinical Skills AND Still Need Support

There is a particular kind of professional isolation that can come with being a therapist.

You're the person your clients come to for perspective, support, and guidance.

But who's there when you need another perspective?

You might be:

  • Second-guessing how to approach a particularly complex client

  • Sitting with a case that feels stuck or isn't progressing the way you hoped

  • Wondering whether you're missing something in your case conceptualization

  • Navigating countertransference or a strong emotional reaction to a client

  • Thinking through an ethical or clinical question

  • Working with a population that requires specialized knowledge

  • Missing the collegiality and connection you had during supervision

  • Practicing independently and realizing how easy it is to become professionally isolated

  • Wanting feedback from clinicians who have different experiences and perspectives than you do

  • Looking for a consistent professional community—not another one-off networking event

  • Trying to keep up with continuing education requirements while also running a busy clinical practice

And sometimes, you simply want to talk about work with people who get it.

You don't need to be struggling to benefit from consultation.

In fact, one of the greatest benefits of peer consultation is having a consistent space to think things through rather than feeling stuck.

A Regular Place to Think, Learn, Consult & Connect

Peer consultation gives you something that can be surprisingly difficult to find once you're fully licensed:

Dedicated time to step out of the therapist role and think about your work with other clinicians.

Research on peer consultation suggests that regular consultation can support clinical effectiveness, critical reflection, professional connection, and clinician well-being. The literature also points to peer consultation as one way clinicians can counter professional isolation and create opportunities to discuss challenging cases, ethical questions, and clinical reactions.

And while the research base is still developing, studies of peer-group supervision have found that groups with more formal structure and documentation tend to report better processes and greater perceived impact.

At LifeSpring, we've taken those principles seriously.

When you participate in a LifeSpring peer consultation group, you can expect opportunities to:

Get another perspective on challenging cases

Sometimes you don't need an answer. You need another clinician to ask the question you hadn't considered

Strengthen your clinical thinking

Talking through a case can help you slow down, examine your assumptions, consider alternative formulations, and approach your work with greater intention.

Feel less alone in your clinical work

Therapy can be deeply meaningful work, but it can also be isolating. Having a consistent group of colleagues can create a sense of professional community and connection.

Build clinical confidence

There's something powerful about realizing that other experienced clinicians have encountered similar challenges and that you have valuable insights to contribute, too.

Learn from clinicians with different perspectives

Every clinician brings different training, experiences, theoretical orientations, populations, and ways of thinking. You don't just receive consultation, you contribute your own knowledge, too.

Have a place to process the complexity of clinical work

Difficult cases don't always fit neatly into a textbook. Peer consultation gives you space to thoughtfully explore the gray areas.

Continue growing after licensure

Professional development doesn't stop when supervision ends. In many ways, that's when lifelong learning really begins. And…professional consultation is one of our ethical duties.

Peer Consultation That's Actually Designed for Clinicians

Not all consultation groups are equally helpful.

A good peer consultation group needs more than a Zoom link and a collection of clinicians.

It needs structure, consistency, psychological safety, confidentiality, and a shared commitment to learning.

That's why LifeSpring's peer consultation groups are intentionally designed around practices that support meaningful consultation.

What makes a LifeSpring peer consultation group different?

Consistent meetings

You don't have to wonder when you'll get another opportunity to consult. Our groups meet on a predictable schedule so consultation becomes part of your professional rhythm.

Case-focused consultation

Our groups are designed around clinical consultation, not marketing, billing, business strategy, or practice-management questions.

A collaborative peer model

Everyone in the room has something to teach, and everyone has something to learn. Consultation isn't about having one person who has all the answers. It's about bringing multiple clinical perspectives to the work.

Confidentiality matters

Members are expected to protect the confidentiality of both their colleagues and the clients discussed in consultation. Cases are presented without identifying information.

A respectful, nonjudgmental environment

Clinical consultation works best when clinicians can be honest about uncertainty, ask questions, consider different perspectives, and admit when they don't know something.

Dedicated time for reflection

Your consultation time isn't squeezed into the five minutes between clients. The group has a designated time to slow down and thoughtfully consider the work.

Clear expectations

Members are expected to show up, participate, respect confidentiality, and contribute to a culture of curiosity, openness, and positive regard.

CE documentation

Members are expected to protect the confidentiality of both their colleagues and the clients discussed in consultation. Cases are presented without identifying information.

We track attendance and maintain documentation so you have the records needed to support eligible Category B/Category II CE reporting.

Maryland regulations specifically recognize peer case conferences as a Category II activity for social workers, and Maryland counseling regulations recognize participation in peer case conferences or peer supervision groups as Category B CE activity. Requirements and eligibility can vary by license and renewal situation, so clinicians remain responsible for confirming that their individual CE requirements are satisfied.

In other words: we're not just putting clinicians in a room together and hoping something useful happens.

We're creating a structure that makes it easier for meaningful consultation and professional connection to actually happen.

Find the Peer Consultation Group That Fits Your Practice

Not all consultation groups are equally helpful. Whether you're looking for broad clinical consultation with experienced colleagues or a community centered around perinatal mental health, there's a LifeSpring group for you.

You Don't Have to Be the Only Clinician in the Room

One of the beautiful things about being a therapist is that every client teaches us something.

But you shouldn't have to learn everything through trial and error.

Sometimes what you need is another perspective.

Sometimes you need someone to say, “I've seen something like this before.”

Sometimes you need to hear yourself talk through a case with people who understand the work.

And sometimes, you just need to remember that you're part of a professional community.

Peer consultation gives you a place to do all of that.

At LifeSpring Counseling Services, we believe in the power of collaboration—not just for our clients, but for the clinicians who care for them.
Our peer consultation groups are built around hope, healing, empowerment, community, and continued professional growth.

Because supporting therapists ultimately supports the people they serve.
