Hi there! My name is Cathy Kioi. I enjoy working with children, teens, students and young adults.

I primarily work with children who present with behavior challenges that interfere with their functioning at home and/or school. If your child is struggling with temper tantrums, poor impulse control, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, or poor communication skills, their difficulties can increase the family’s stress as a whole. Knowing that some behaviors can be overwhelming for individuals and families to manage, I offer a warm, caring environment that’s welcoming and free from judgment. I understand that there is often a reason behind every behavior, so I strive to identify the cause of a behavioral concern, give you and your child the necessary tools to eliminate negative behaviors, and guide your child in learning how to express themselves in a healthy and appropriate manner. I have specialized training in Applied Behavior Analysis therapy to help your child reduce their challenging behaviors and increase their positive communication skills.

I’ve found that once a child is able to communicate appropriately and feel heard and understood, they are free to live a much calmer and happier life, which creates a positive environment for the entire family.

I also hope to help young adults who are struggling with anxiety, depression, stress, self-esteem and relationship problems. My goal is to help you learn to accept and love yourself as you are, to stop beating yourself down and putting unnecessary pressure on yourself, in order to live a more peaceful life. I utilize Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy to help you challenge your negative thoughts and to develop a more realistic positive mindset about yourself and your life. I like for my clients to leave our sessions feeling empowered and ready to take on life’s challenges.

In my free time, I love to bake, embroider, read non-fiction books and go to the beach. I also run a small non-profit, called FeedMe, Inc., that provides nourishment to children in developing countries.

My Educational Background:

I received my bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Towson University. I then went on to pursue my master’s degree in Counseling Psychology at Loyola University in Baltimore. Cathy likes to use a Person-Centered approach to therapy when she first meets her clients, by accepting them unconditionally and making them feel welcome and not judged. She also uses Behavior Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help clients change their thoughts and in turn, change their feelings and their actions. This often leads to clients feeling more positive about themselves and their life.
